or that there isn't a very large contingient that regards George Bush as the true enemy, and have been rooting for any outcome that hurts him, regardless of what might happen to America

You just described an ugly fact of political reality in this country. Same thing happened to Clinton.

Grow up, girl and accept reality.

The difference is that Clinton's overall performance DEFIED his critics....his tax increases DIDN'T derail the economy, his negotiated peace in Ireland IS still holding, he prosecuted the war in Bosnia w/o losing an American life, he CUT govt. spending and ended welfare as we had known it, and so on.

Bush, OTOH, has EXCEEDED his critics' worst expectations.

Bush is a first rate idiot. It was obvious in the debates and in campaign interviews. He was hand-picked and sold to the corpus of well-meaning republican voters in this country. You should leave your attack on the MSM and turn your wrath on the republican machinery and party hacks that brought this idiot to power. They knew his incompetencies.

"Practically nobody was screaming "quagmire, we're doomed, we're doomed" in 64 and 65, like they were here right from day one in 2003."

That's because with Iraq, we'd already BEEN there and DONE that, in Vietnam! We could see the "quagmire" coming before it was one..

Please don't try to tell me that the Dem party wouldn't have had a different attitude if a Dem had been president, or that there isn't a very large contingient that regards George Bush as the true enemy, and have been rooting for any outcome that hurts him, regardless of what might happen to America.

A big part of the problem may just be George W Bush. I am sure you can find a lot of Democrats who supported the overthrow of Saddam Hussein. I am sure that you could find a lot of Democrats who favor a strong pro Israeli foreign policy and you could even find generals in the military that actually believe the surge can be successful.

I am also fairly certain you can increasingly find Republicans who think that George W Bush is bad for America. He has made America a lot weaker, economically, militarily, and in terms of global respect from other countries (former or current allies).

All of us of a certain age have known people who should not be given a job of responsibility. We see it in our every day lives. We see bosses that should not have been given a position of power and authority. That happens all the time. We see heads of household that use their power as heads of household making life miserable for people in the family. It does not necessarily matter whether these people are Republicans, Democrats or whatever.

I think George W. Bush is in this same category - only he is President of the United States.

I think what he has done will come back to haunt us as there will be backlash that will hurt all the positions he has taken - even though many of them are not all that bad.

I think because of George W. Bush we may see protectionism take hold of our economic policy and that will put us in jeopardy to see some smoot/Hawley-like protectionist legislation that could precipitate a world wide depression.

And, possibly the worst scenario as far as you are concerned, the very widely held positive view of a pro-Israeli foreign policy can turn very negative.

Ideology aside, the problem may just be George W. Bush.
