There are lots of voices in the Bible. Christ was only one of many.

He never preached that 'poverty was a good thing'. To the contrary, he participated in weddings and other festivities.

The comment most people focus on was that given to the apostles as they were discussing how they could effectively follow Jesus. Jesus suggested that an effective apostle needed to be willing to sacrifice all for the cause......leave his family and all his worldly possessions behind. This recommendation was only to his apostles, not to the world at large.

Christ also suggested that it would be 'easier for a camel to pass thru the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get to heaven'. The key word is rich.....to become rich, most have to pour all their focus and energy into the pursuit of wealth thus taking their eye off the spiritual ball, so to speak.

This is different from saying that wealth is evil. It's a cautionary statement about the pursuit of wealth. It's a challenge to all to not lose their souls in that pursuit.

Christ preached that the poor would always be with us. And that people of means would be doing God's work if they share with the poor. There's never any suggestion in any of his many statements on caring for the poor that we should all take a vow of poverty.

Tell it to Jesus Geode! Just bear in mind that if you're wealthy, you have as much a chance of going to Heaven as a camel has passing through the eye of a needle..

Agnostic is the only sane way to be. You don't believe, but are open to persuasion.

Subud is an interesting new religion that supposedly DOESN'T require faith. Google it.

You go, do what they say for a couple of months until you're "opened", and you either get it or you don't. If you don't, you say goodbye. I've been intending to try it for years..
