Geode, re: If everyone is wealthy then there is no problem distinguishing between wealthy and poor which is my entire point.

You fail to acknowledge the instincts which sent us crawling up the evolutionary ladder.

"Poor" is not an absolute value, it's relative. Thousands of years ago the poorest among us would have been considered kings but today those living a lifestyle many times more prosperous than those "kings" often feel like abject failures.

In the great competition of life, success is the yardstick we use to measure our self worth. Even those who think competition is for the least evolved among us compete to be the least competitive.

So if you're the best fisherman in a little Mexican village and have the envy and respect of all your neighbors, don't be the first to buy a Satellite TV. You may find yourself feeling "poor" when you see how your neighbors to the north are living. Ed

"The only reason to be alive and human is to make progress. Everything else is just a waste of time."

Biology says that the only reason to be alive is to transmit our DNA forward.

Religion says the reason is to serve god.

If your god is progress(what ever that means) then you must be religious.

"If everyone is wealthy then there is no problem distinguishing between wealthy and poor which is my entire point."

Poorly expressed but I think you mean "If everyone is wealthy then there is no reason to distinguish between wealthy and poor". Something else would turn up to measure differences between people.
