Germany attacked our close allies in Europe. If Iran attacked Israel or England we'd be in a fight with them for sure. Attacking our closest allies is almost the same as attacking us. Also, Germany sank many US ships before we declared war against them. Those were also acts of war.

I hate to be the fact checker (or maybe I relish it :), but Germany did not sink a lot of our ships prior to Pearl Harbor. And Germany declared war first.

Basically, I don't think WWII is applicable to the current situation at all. Different beast.
