i caught a peeping tom or at least we cornered one in the back yard, we called the police. They showed up later and by then he had escaped. They informed me that in spite of their best efforts, we had prowlers, peepers, burglars and flashers in my neighbourhood, and they saw no hope of catching them, or stopping them.

I worked very hard to earn what I own. I pay horrendous taxes to have police protect me, and they admit their inability to stop prowlers, peepers, burglars, and flashers, but the insurance company will pay for whatever is lost.

When the police admit they are unable to keep the peace, and to ensure the safety of the people in a community, it is up to the people of the community to ensure their own safety. Break into my house, I will ensure you don't do it again.

Not because I am crazy, not because I believe in violence, but because I am aware that I am my only defense I have in the community I live in. The police are too busy with the war on drugs to spend time on keeping the taxpayers safe.

There is a boy, by the way, who on occasion gets tossed out of his home. One night he slept in my car. Since that night there is always a blanket or two in the car, and usually a bottle of water or two. Sometimes the loose change in the front seat is gone, sometimes it isn't. I have no idea what he looks like or which boy it is. But he does no damage.
