This discussion about NEW surprises me. In my opinion, it is not contrarian investing so much as speculative gambling.

I have been following this thread because I believe that there may be some good opportunities in the mortgage space at present, as you said, diamonds among the rubble. But your focus on NEW seems out of place and lopsided.

So far my best lead for something in this arena has come from the HSOA board:
