"The drunk parent can sleep it off and the kids are safe."

It's hard for me to imagine drunkenness to be as innocuous as that but I agree otherwise.

This seems to be an issue that once had much more relevance than it will in the future. I doubt that the child welfare system is able to deal with the numbers of children that have already fallen out of care giving support, let alone those who are being poorly cared for.

We now have 51% of the mate-able population in America, living as singles. Singles who are raising kids can'g be everything at once. Although there are some remarkable exceptions, kids tend to be less well cared for in this circumstance over all. You and I are older folks, who operate in society with an identity that was derived from a core family community based culture. So, even though we may not be living that lifestyle we make sense out of life from that community based reference.

Most of the children growing up today do not have that concept of identity and probably wont be supporting community life as we think of it. Most of the boys are growing up with out positive father roles providing a significant influence in their development. Crime statistics are once again on the rise with more women criminals being the biggest change in statistics.

The world birth ratio of males to females is all out of whack with 117 males to 100 females in the Eastern Hemisphere countries of China, India, and Korea. We may have in the neighborhood of 100 million extra young men ready to make their impact on the world right now. Add to that all of the mate-able men who are living single lives and you have the potential for a huge male problem that is unprecedented in World history. What will they do with their lives?

I guess we are about to find out but we know one thing about unmated men, they band together and get violent.
