Climate is a chaotic, non-linear and tightly coupled system.

Be careful, the same can be said of many dynamics systems. The chaotic part is one of the big issues. Weather is chaotic, but to what degree long-term climate trends are is less clear.

Scientists model all sorts of things (Big-Bang, Galaxy formation, planetary formation, Solar evolution, etc) all of which are chaotic, non-linear, coupled systems (plus other buzz words) and these models have proven useful in developing theories that look good. However, none of these models would be of any use at all in actually arriving at a specific configuration of our galaxy, our planet, or out sun. That is what the chaotic part puts off-limits.

Climate models are trying to do what the above models do for scientists in other fields: provide average or expected outcomes. The popular media does not bother to try and educate the public on the difference.

Re global warming. I worry that the left could take this problem and run with it in the same fear-crazed manner that the right has with terrorism.

Having said that, however, I'm willing to support measures to reduce carbon emissions and air pollutants in general and don't view it as a waste of money as you do. If dems take the white house, I hope their efforts in this arena are thoughtful and cost-efficient.

China will quickly surpass us in terms of damage to air quality. I resent that this administration squandered the opportunity to take the environmental lead.....we may have been able to persuade China to take preventive actions.
