While you weren't paying attention, Russia already took control of Europe's energy. And China is tying up Africa and South America, and, even, Canada. We're playing the wrong game.

it would not change US posture in ME one iota

Generally speaking, we owe a huge apology to the ME for our part in carving the region up after WWII, our unfettered greed in early business schemes, and our continual political meddling.

That should be the basis for a change in our posture, imo, because we are losing ground in terms of competition.
No one in the ME trusts the US to do anything that isn't completely in our own self-interest.
