I remember my dad started shopping for back yard fallout shelters! We had drills where we all went to the basement of the local public school, which was the community shelter, as pole mounted sirens wailed. And of course, drills in school where we all went out into the hall, crouched on our knees facing the wall and covered our heads! Exciting times!
