Washington "separated" the male and female plants as they have different harvest times. Even separated, they'd have pollinated. There's no indication anybody in colonial American times smoked pot or knew what it was.

But I'll throw out some things you can probably run with:

Louis Armstrong, now he was a pot smoker.

Cannibis might (stress might) have been one of four plants (translated as "sweet cane") used to make annointing oil in the Hebrew Tabernacle (Ex 30: 23)

They didn't smoke it though and controlled its use - see verses 31-33 in Ex. 30.
