aleph0 - That would be fascinating, IF it's true.

Lehman is probably talking about the transition of fab 30 into fab 38.

He can't be talking about fab 36 as it is at 65nm since end Q4 '06. There's a whole range of A64's and Opterons at 65nm, while Barcelona is at 65nm as well. Performance is not exactly top notch yet, but it really should be improving in a normal way.

Presuming Lehman did indeed mean fab 30/38 and not fab 36 then this begs the questions of how early AMD is trying to get to 45nm, and/or if they expect at least stagnating or possibly shrinking unit demand during most of '07.

Without further details it's about impossible to know if this is positive or negative for AMD.

Regards,

Rink

"I suppose skipping 65nm. and going straight to 45nm. is actually a good sign ... assuming the 65nm. yields are very good at Fab36 !"

It depends. IF they are delaying the conversion so that it no longer makes sense to start with 65nm. I wouldn't consider that good. OTOH, it might mean that 45nm is doing better than anticipated. That would be good. On the gripping hand, it might mean that they have their back to the way and are gambling big. That would be real bad...

Phil,

That would save some capex for 2007.

It's like the gambler that does a double down to try recouping losses.
