Hi Ken...

Dusty is 15' from stem to stern and the cutest little 1971 Shasta. We bought her from out neighbors.........who used it as a hunting trailer......back in '88. My husband rebuilt her a few yrs back because she was really rotting from the inside. I refused to use her anymore after I was awoken one night by a mouse running across my head. He tore a few exterior panels off and found extensive rot. The floor underneath the sink was almost completely gone near the exterior wall etc. It's understandable that a trailer that old would have extensive rot, after all of the places we had taken her not to mention where she'd been before we bought her. We ended up buying a 19' Nomad and after that a 24' fifth wheel, but we really didn't like either one. The Nomad was squirrely and all over the road and the fifth wheel was just too big. We like to get out into the wilderness, and Dusty is just the right size. Brutus hauls her just fine.

She was swept into some big fir trees in the flood of Nov and was just released last week. She's still up at the river property, but we hope to get her home next weekend and see what kind of shape she's in. From the outside and with just a cursory glance, she looks to be in OK shape and restorable. I hope so! We are going to take a long trip in her one of these days after hubby retires.

If you really want to know about vintage trailers, talk to Smithee. He bought one a few months back and did some really extensive research. He has a catalog of sources and is a real encyclopedia of information.

Have you ever read Steinbecks' "Travels with Charlie"? ....It was the story of Steinbeck and his dog Charlie traveling all the backroads of the US and actually getting to meet the people who lived there....Most interesting! Only book of Steinbeck's that I really liked.
