i'm not a fan of the whole drm thing. but i don't illegally download content. i'd love to be able to build a legal htpc.

i'm sure lots of folks are imagining ways to defeat the ati/cablecard scenario. i'm equally sure that cablelabs has their own blackhat team.

i don't know what out-of-band queries can be made over the cable and what the msos are required to verify before sending content to a cablecard based system. if it's more than a one-time query your workaround may fail quite quickly.
