Please post what you learn about Taft.

There were still Conservatives, they were just out of power.

There was also an anti-colonial dimenaison to US foreign policy, which would occasionally show up.

The US position in the Suez Crisis against Britian and France was one of the last major anti-colonial moves until later efforts to free the countries controled by the Soviets.

Did you like EP's equating the ideal fascist USA with Rome? Somewhere in one of your posts I detected a hint of disapproval of empire-building, but I'm puzzled. All those fascist regimes previously mentioned aspired to empires (well, except for Spain), and Rome is best known for its empire. What's more, I have no doubt that US nationalism, which you applaud, goes hand in hand with lust for empire. What was the Iraq invasion but the empire extending itself?

I don't find your hankering for fascism surprising - there are fascists everywhere - but I am surprised that you seem to think you can have fascism/extreme nationalism in the US without the associated aggressive and hegemonic behaviour. But maybe I simply misunderstood you, and in fact you are not concerned about US militarism.

As an aside, I'm amused by your "discovery" that, after all, the Russian communists created Hitler's Third Reich. Those heroic and misunderstood Nazis, saving the world from communism. Heh heh.
