Your -and the OECD's- demographic window has closed. There is not that bulge in the 'waist' of the pyramid with the majority of the population made out of 25-30 year-olds.

So there is not a lot of poor people who'll become more affluent and seek to have proper housing.

What was my remedy for that? Mass what? Starts with M.

Asia and LATAM entered in the demographic window, we will coast nicely from here on.

Now you have TJ at the 'mouth' of China gorging in moolah!

Maurice,
Could you elucidate on this or post a link, I would like to understand the mechanics of how the fine folks in NZ got themselves into this unfortunate situation:

"But the government has now made it illegal to build your own house. Which is an interesting law."

I shudder at the very thought of being left to the (un)tender mercies of contractors when building a house, and I figure one more house to build, at least, in my lifetime. Now in this globalized world, you have given me another deadline, for I don't believe it will take very long for US to catch up to NZ in this respect.

Best,
Roebear

How can they make it illegal to build your own house? That is generally one of the best tax shelters out there which works in both US and Aus too (Aus has zero CGT on owner occupied housing but no mortgage deduction while a landlord has to pay CGT and can deduct mortgage interest).

Maurice,
(1) <<barely Happy Meal returns>> we in HK do not provide housing to others in return for Happy Meals. We let out housing so as to rob the tenants blind Message 23396622 , since they are the ones enthusiastic about staying here and be robbed until their eyeballs pop out;

(2) <<Made in China/discounted in India>> is what allows above item (1) to be our state of reality;

(3) <<governments enjoy vast profits of control by way of diluting their fake currencies>> is tougher to do here, because gold is money, can be put on the monthly statement of the bank account, accessible via ATM and reachable by phone-banking, 24/7.

(4) 5 years from now, we could well be posting back and forth about platinum having rose another 3x by dollar money, and gold did some number just as reasonable. You should seek salvation, change your world view, abandon your implicit premises; or just continue as is, argue for pointless argument's sake, and watch your savings gurgle down due to actions you surely and fully comprehend.
