Fear of loss.

Once your had it all you want to do everything that you can to preserve it. So any threat to your losing it or any part of it induces a psychosis of fear.

Fear of enemies unseen and those seen. Fear of Gays, Blacks,Jews... all wrapped in prejudice but underneath fear.

This administration appealed to that fear... and still does.

After 9/11 more fear was generated in this Nation than it had been in maybe a century..

The reaction to the fear induced all kinds of paranoia which I read on these threads daily.. A big one from the past Communism... Socialism... Progressives... Bleeding LIBERALS...
Now... Terrorists... Muslims... Al Quida..ETC...

I do not want to minimize these however what happens in the cases of fear is a reaction that makes the pendulum swing to the right.. AND Fundamentalists, especially Christian ones
are really very fearful. Not only all they own but their religion is threatened too.. They swing more and an editorial in the local paper this week describes the phobia against Gays that Fundamentalists have. The possibility that they may be born with their proclivity toward the same sex has generated a great deal of fear for it would contradict their basic tenants
from the Bible.. What do to about it. Cannot abort... so a conundrum is produced.. How so reconcile a God who creates homosexuals with a God who condemns practicing homosexuals to hell..

A mysterious God may be well and good but a capricious or contradictory God can inspire so much doubt that He threatens the credibility of the entire religious enterprise... FEAR AGAIN.

This is an over simplification of everything as it is not all this simple and I realize that. However, I take a lot of what I post here from my own experiences with people as well as within my family.

Roosevelt penned it right on when he said the only thing we have to fear.......and you know the rest. This is just my take on your post...

We have to be careful what fear does to us.
