Yes, I see it as an issue going forward. I wish one of the IC analysis shops would try to compare Intel's & AMD's 65nm processes and comment on the issue.

AFAIK, for the rest of it, they are pretty similar, other than AMD tends to use more metal layers as well. I think both use n & p strain approaches that are roughly similar. AMD is in theory adding more SiGe complications at some point.

It is most definitely a concern, that AMD uses a more and more complex process to match what Intel delivers on a simpler one. But unfortunately, no real good current analysis of the issues from this POV.
