Something is wrong. Altman says that Q will accept the same terms; and today, Simonson of Nokia says the company "wont pay more" than its paid in the past. If I were a mediator having both of those statements in front of me there would be a resolution in five minutes. That is, unless there is a whole lot more going on than we are aware of.

Re: "Does this suggest that the Q’s royalty rate proposed to NOK in the license extension position is actually higher that the current contracted rate???????"

No, "exact same terms" per Steve Altman.

Actually that statement pertains to the option to extend thru 2008, and not, by my read, to the terms of the new license renewal/ extension being "negotiated".

"Not only that, at their [edit: Nokia's] request -- and think about this in terms of a FRAND commitment, of whether they really viewed it as not being in accordance with FRAND -- they obtained an option to be able to extend the exact same terms of that [edit: 2001 license] agreement which they could exercise anytime to the end of '08" -- Steven Altman, London Analyst Day (1:15:25)
