Seems like you are right, both the North American and the European versions are listed at Wiki as manufactured in Michigan. Amazing, so it does seem that the US can build cars too, even small ones.
My son in Sweden owns one and he is highly satisfied.

The Focus seems to be a good little car, but still rates behind it's competition:

One of Detroit's big problems is just how GOOD cars from Japan have become. Hondas are more reliable than Mercedes.
