Just my $0.02... I'd prefer a thinner area above the menu bars. The Silicon Investor logo and Total Posts counts takes about a sixth of my viewable area. I'd prefer to be able to see more of the posts without having to scroll so much. again, my $0.02

Seriously, I do understand how difficult your job is. There is no way to please everyone. I like the way you are handling the feedback you're getting. Oh, it's not that difficult at all. Not only do we all on this side of the screen accept that we can't please everyone, everyone on the other side of the screen is too and knows how it goes and deals with it. Perhaps you could have a contest to create a new one. You could select a few finalists and the members could vote. Dunno. As far as "need" goes, I don't think the site really needs a logo. The way the name is written is good enough. But I'm pretty fond of the SI Guys and apparently a lot of others are, though its brand value has basically evaporated over the years.
