"Where are the good diplomats when you need them?"

They tend to not be "good Bushies". So...

Yes, I do. Thx for the clarification. I think your post was an excellent one and I agree with the points you made. I've often thought that we need to engage in dialogue with Iran. I remember right after 9/11, there was a brief moment in time when Iran softened a bit. They actually felt bad for us and said so. That was our moment to engage. But you know what happened instead. The infamous "Axis of Evil" speech. That slammed the door on dialogue and essentially got the hardliners re-elected and shut out the reformists.

Its not just the axis of evil crap although that's very much part of it. We are demanding that Iran abide by the Atomic Energy Commission edict requirements while we violate the nuclear proliferation treaty we signed a while back.

That whole "do as I say not as a I do" thing doesn't work with children so why should it work with countries? To tell you the truth, it embarrasses me when we pull stunts like that. I don't want it done to me and I wouldn't do it to others. Its hard for me to be proud of America when we are acting no better than fast talking, snake oil salesmen.

Thanks for your comments.....and working through it with me.

Iran didn't feel BAD for us...they were scared sh#tless of us.

They saw how we went into Afghanistan and cleaned out the Taliban in 6 weeks.

They had some "mutual interests" with us and they had reason to FEAR us.

We had ALL the trump cards at that time. If we had opened serious diplomatic discussions with them we could have possibly changed the entire Middle East.

BUT...we had the idiot Bush and Cheney in charge and they weren't interested in diplomacy. THEY just wanted to "crush" everybody and show how tough we were.

Well...they ended up showing how "vulnerable" we are rather than how tough. They've empowered Iran and N. Korea and every country on the Security Council at the UN.
