Actually, the whole job probably could have been done by the Mossad moving company. For starters, they wouldn't be likely to suffer any pangs of conscience - false flag attacks against the US is business as usual for the greater glory of Israel. Slapping half a pound of Detcord, with wireless detonators, to 47 interior columns, on 10-15 floors, wouldn't take that long for half a dozen guys.

If you were to figure 5 minutes to set each charge, on 47 columns it would take 4 hours per floor. With 5 guys working on 15 floors, it would take 12 hours for each tower and about 350 pounds of explosive - although you'd probably need heavier charges for the thick columns on the lower levels. Even if you figured a thousand pounds of explosive per building, that would still only be 5 trips with 200 pounds of stuff on a hand truck per tower.

The argument it would take huge manpower resources, with hundreds of people in the know, doesn't wash. Special ops of that sort are done with small teams. Plus it'd be twice as easy with the security company in your hip pocket. The order comes down that this group is okay and is not to be bothered. Even if someone does find their activities unusual enough to call security, they're still covered.

nothing would seem out of the ordinary to people used to such activity.

If they didn't put it together at the time, they would have figured it out by now. They haven't, not because there were 50,000 stupid people in the WTC, but because there isn't anything to put together. Everyone who ever worked in the WTC has traded stories with their coworkers by now.
