I was raised in the Adirondacks......first in Westport and then in Saranac Lake which is right outside of Lake Placid.

I hiked lots of those trails as a child.....even tried to row a boat across Lake Champlain when I was about 8 or 9.

Once I took a couple girls on a bush whacking run down the backside of a mountain and dam near got lost........they were crying but I kept my head and led them to safety. we were never lost.........just astray from the path.

Camped out in Winter near Marcy Dam .........it was below zero.

We also had some bear encounters.

My Dad was a lumberman and had mills near Westport and in North Creek. We went on roads that few men had trodden down..........many of them made by my father. He made the public beach in Westport and bulldozed the road that went down to it. It was said he could make a road to anywhere!

I have seen some great wilderness areas that are pristine because of my Dad's business.

I have also been through Glacier National Park. An old high school friend is married to a New Zealander who ran the boat concessions in the park so they lived in Two Medicine and in Kalispel. The place is beautiful if you don't mind heights on the GOing to the Sun Road..........and the "weeping wall" you will see some spectacular scenery. Grizzlies might be part of that scenery..........that's where I saw my first Grizzlie in the wild...........I was safely near the car and he was on a ridge.

St Mary's Lake is so stunning...........just like the old Marlboro commercials that were filmed there.

This country is so full of great scenery !!
