re: You know, if Chavez was less of a freaking maniac, he could have been a legitimate contender to US power. But all his maniacal rantings and ravings have made him a circus show. Even so, he's dangerous. He is a great example of why we need to not only become oil independent, but lead the way for the rest of the world to do so as well. Let Chavez and OPEC use their own oil and the rest of the world can use what they produce themselves combined with renewables. That would be the ultimate revenge against all of the bad actors in the world.

Just thinking out loud but the world may evolve towards a political division based on oil; the have's vs. the have not's. Frankly the pursuit of alternative fuels and efficiency is a direct economic attack on the ME nations, Russia and Venezuela. Those countries would really suffer most of the industrialized world got off oil. It's very much in their interests to keep us on the tit.
