Having witnessed firsthand what you're referring to in action, I have to agree that there is a downside, as you've suggested. That said, what to do? The baby didn't do anything wrong, even if its bathwater stinks.

If we want to examine how influence plays into government related business transactions, we could always discuss the $25 Billion Sallie Mae deal in the rags today. That one is a doozie, imo, with a helluva story preceding it. What they've done, imo, is make a very fast exit from the stage.
