>>Modern "liberals" see the words "gun-free (or nuclear free, in the case of Berkeley) zone" and somehow thinks that this magically makes the place safer. But the sign that mass murderers see is "free-fire zone of unarmed victims."<<

Bill -

I don't think you really know what "modern liberals" think. I can assure you that most of us don't believe in magic.

One thing I do know is that the guy who shot up the Virginia Tech campus wasn't thinking about whether or not anyone else on campus might have a gun. He wasn't thinking clearly at all. Crazy people will do crazy things, and nobody with any sense has any illusion that society can somehow prevent that from ever happening.

Making it easier for crazy people to get guns doesn't make the rest of us any safer.

We can all make up straw men about what the other side believes, and then shoot it down with a "but" (pun intended) but it isn't very impressive Bill. Staw men may work on your own thread, since there are no liberals there to contradict you per your fiat, but here we know what modern liberals think, and it's quite obvious that you don't.

Wow, Bill. I am, quite frankly, astounded that anyone serious would be arguing that kids should be allowed to walk around college campuses armed so that, if one of them snaps, others will be able to take him out. Do you really think that a student capable of killing 32 fellow Hokies over a girl is going to be at all deterred by the thought that some other student might shoot him? Sorry, Bill, but psychotics are not that easily deterred. We're not talking about everyday criminals here, robbing convenience stores or burglarizing homes. It seems obvious to me that arming students, faculty or staff just in case one of them is a lunatic just makes it more likely that when that psychotic break comes, people will die.
