Arabs care about keeping Palestine as it is so they are able to blame Israel for their micro sins and the great satan for their macro ones. If your family suddenly became refugees you would do anyting and everything for them. But not the arabs for the pals because the victimhood thing is all that matters. No realistic compromise ever occurs because what the arabs are after is destruction of israel and to do that one of their chief tactics is keeping Pals in rags. Not all arabs for sure but my indictment is for those who run their countries, their religion and their wealth.

<<That's probably because the pro-Israeli AIPAC donors want what they want more. The resources of the pro-Palestinian/anti-Israel crowd are probably much, much higher than the pro-Israel crowd. Lets see, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the UAE have something like 30% of the world's known petroleum reserves. Who's side do you think they are on?>>

The Saudis/Kuwaitis etc. have much higher priorities with the US than Palestinian concerns. They look after THEIR own interests first.....besides, having the Palestinian issue alive is a political plus for them. All the more reason for hating the Israelis.

You're still feeding into my original point. The Pals are completely screwed when it comes to lobbying power in the US. To compare their efforts to those of AIPAC is simply not valid and to use that as an indicator of their desire for autonomy is simply ridiculous.

<< You shouldn't begrudge AIPAC because its supporters are willing to put their money where their mouth is while their opposition is not.>>

My concern on this issue is that it is painfully obvious that my country's foreign policy is up for sale to the highest bidder. I could care less if its the Israelis, Arabs, Turks or freakin' Martians.....its a huge fundamental flaw in our system. Talk about a conflict of interests.

Elroy.

"The so called pro-Palestinian crowd has way more resources that the pro-Israeli crowd, but they'd rather spend their money on the 4 year old 34th prince's birthday party and the 2nd royal cousin twiced removed's private jet weekend excursion to London."

funny, sad, and true.

An important component that I'll chime in with is the wealthy Arab overlords and their middle classes, such as they are, lack of love or care for their Pal brethren.
They simply don't give a rat's ass for whether they live or die. And when they do "care", it's to further their own geo-political agendas, here and abroad.

Jewish Americans, not just AIPAC, have always---for a variety of reasons---have an affinity/empathy with their fellow Jews. Hell, historically, prolly for their identification with centuries of persecution, they've put their soul and effort into most most any cause that tries to get people off the hook. To wit: the Russian Revolution thru the Civil Rights Movement.

During the 60's and 70's, Israel, and put a great deal of effort into the implementation of aiding of not just a few Arican countries with building, irrigation, and health care projects---Uganda, an ironic, bite your own ass, example of just one.

It's unfortunate, once again, that the Pals have decided to miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity by electing Hamas, therefore putting themselves into a place---was it possible?---of deepening poverty and misery. Why, I ask myself ( which we've both, to an extent, answered, so , by now, it's merely rhetorical ) does not the UAE/ Saudi, with all their Petro Dollars, do an end run and enable the Pals to build a self sustaining and burgeoning economy? And tell Hamas to get off their war horse and finally get a life for their people?

Of course, with all the safeguards in place to insure that the $$ goes for the above and not plastique.

It would scare the hell out of Hama; within a generation, they'd have no reason to exist. Then, again, would they ever allow such a structure to even be born?
