I know the handful of Marines on some of these small bases were always thrilled to come down and eat with us on the sub when we would pull in. They seemed to think it was much better then their own.

I could say that ASW (anti-submarine warfare) is a waste of time (against US subs)...but maybe I'm biased. :-)

I'm retired Navy, spent all my time in the Sub force.
