People get tired Uncle. But given a serious challenge, with real purpose and not just an optional war because Saddam was mean to King George II and somebody was going to pay for 911, whether Saddam had anything to do with it or not, I think the USA could rustle up some serious military fervour without much problem.

But there really isn't much to get the juices flowing. Sure, Iran is being annoying getting their nucular bombs ready. But there's no great rush there.

China is threatening Taiwan, but some carrier group intercession could deal with a lot of that. North Korea is not likely to be a big problem. Their test nuke was a fizzer and anyway, they'd have to deliver it somewhere that would somehow benefit them. I don't see how North Korea could benefit by blowing a hole in Tokyo, or Seoul, or some USA military base.

That would likely get them 20 megatons for each kiloton they delivered. I wouldn't want to go into terrestrial warfare with them. I'd rather show them what such action gets in return, from a nice, safe distance.

Japan gave in quite quickly after a couple of nukes. Al Qaeda wouldn't, so nukes aren't so much use there. But even there, I would have thought it reasonable that Putin demonstrate to Islamic Jihad that they can't kill a school full of children with impunity. I'd be inclined to get the polonium 210 out [as they did on Mr Islamic Jihad Litvinenko] or maybe remove that Islamic rock in Mecca. Killing a school full of children was about as barbaric as it gets.

All in all, there isn't a lot for the USA to be having wars over right now. Osama notwithstanding.

If it's true that 70% of Iraqis want the USA out, I'd say that's plenty. Even if only 30% said they want the USA out, that's a quorum.

If the USA just withdrew to Kuwait, or to defensible areas, leaving Iraqis to sort things out, I don't see why that's a big problem. Unless Iraqis beg in sufficient numbers for the USA/UN to stay, they might as well clear out.

If necessary, another invasion could be done. The major strategic conflicts seem to be won very easily, at top speed. It's the door to door battles which are a problem.

I certainly wouldn't want to be standing around trying to keep things civilized in downtown Baghdad while most local yokels want to kill me.

Well, with people like Harry Reid saying that "We've lost the war in Iraq"....it certainly doesn't help anything. They can't/won't get the funding bill to GWB that he can sign, I just heard that 40% of the requested "Surge" soldiers aren't in Iraq yet....and the AQ factions are behind many of the truck bombings, pitting the Sunnis and the Shia against each other....(as if they needed any more help....)

Swell. Just swell. It's hard enough to win a war...any war, with your own people behind you....but when a so called "leader" of Dems comes out as a Senator and says "We've lost the war".....and we out here in hinterland, see NO effort to get the funding handled....

WHY should any right minded person even think of joining the military? Where's the funding, and Where's the support from the Americans?
