I have actually seen very good coverage on the Beeb about the upswing in Ireland's economy believe it or not

I have seen good coverage of the existence of the upswing, and of social implications. But the nature of the policies that achieved this good result, or why France, for example, has not done as well wrt to their unemployment rates or business formation - I have never seen those discussed in any detail. You can get the impression that the Irish just got lucky.

I wasn't watching BBC coverage in the 70s and 80s so I can't comment. But if Roland Aitken is to be believed, the BBC is a very different institution now to what it was then.
