It looks like the reporter made some rather basic errors.

"OSLO, Norway: Police arrested two men Monday on suspicion of assaulting an outspoken critic of Islam after she publicly called for a revision of the Quran's view of women.

Kadra Noor, 26, emerged into the public spotlight in 2000, when her secret recordings of imams in Norway supporting female circumcision, contrary to some of their public statements, was aired as part of a national television documentary."

First: Noor has been advocating for changes in the way Islam is being interpreted, not for changes in the Quran itself. Good for her. Anyone who suggests that the Quran can be changed is ignorant. Challenging interpretation is a challenge to religious authorities ... risky business; as you may recall, it was fatal for one famous dude who landed on a cross for it.

Second: The controversy over female circumcision has nothing to do with the Quran. It is an ancient cultural practice, predating the Quran by probably thousands of years, originating in tribes in Africa and for which Mohammad made one simple comment to make peace between Muslims and the tribes of Africa who were willing to go to war over it. Roughly translated he said to them, if you are going to continue the practice, it must be only ritualistic, like making a nick and may in no way cause harm to a woman. That settled the issue at the time and Africans started converting to Islam in droves.
