Al Qaeda has a better imagination than the leaders of the USA, by the admission of the highest levels of the USA presidency. Al Q could imagine a multiple hijacking, the USA couldn't. Not the airlines, not the pilots, not the aircrew, not the CIA, not the FBI, not the aviation security people, not Norad, not the National Security Advisor, not the President, not the NSA, not anyone. Well, I could, but I wasn't about to tell that crowd of nutters what I was thinking. I like staying alive.

I believe there was a female cop in the Philippines who figured it out several years ahead of time as well.

The USA figures that spending money is what life's about. How much money Barack, Hillary and co have raised seems to be the main issue. As though the one who raises the most money wins.

Though I'm not a big fan of the French, the French electoral system might be an improvement in the old USandA

Understand each candidate gets to spend exactly the same amount of money (not much)

Each candidate gets the same amount of TV time (45 minutes)

and

There is a blackout on rallies, ads, etc. prior to the election.

Money is nice, but it's ideology which matters

Ideologies are good at destroying things, but when it comes to making things - and money - all of them suck... except for old fashioned capitalism.

Well, that's sort of how it is, actually. In the early going, the candidates who are well ahead in the money-raising department want everyone else to know about it, because it discourages people from giving any more money to the competitors who aren't doing so well in the money race. If you can't show that you are one of the early leaders in the money race, your money dries up pretty fast. People don't like giving much of their own money to a losing cause.
