Virginia Tech is an ROTC school. In fact, Virginia Tech, VPI was one of the institutions of higher learning to send your son to get his training for going into the service.

My presumption would be that the ROTC students take their basic courses other than military training with the other students.

If that is the case then seems logical to use this natural supply of ROTC students to be trained in the use of handguns.

If I were a student at Va Tech I would likely not choose to carry a gun; however, I would certainly appreciate knowing that there were students trained in using a gun in my classrooms.

When I think about instructors carrying guns-------not every instructor will be capable of using a weapon. That leaves students vulnerable if the teacher cannot shoot and there is no student carrying a gun and trained in its use in the area.

On the other hand, I might want to carry------some years ago our house was burgled while on vacation and there had been several rapes in the community.

Upon the advice of the local security officer, I went to the skeet shooting range and learn to use a shotgun----cleaning it, shooting it and hitting the target. Received a shotgun for my birthday.

I was also advised that if I use the gun to shoot an intruder to be sure that I kill the intruder and pull him inside my property to prevent my being charged with a crime. Don't know whether or not that still applies in Virginia.

Certainly the Tech representative who made the statement about Tech students and parents feeling secure because there is a no gun carry law on the campus did not ring true in this case.

JMHO--------someone like Cho would of had guns regardless of campus or Virginia forbidding guns--- if not guns then perhaps a home made bomb that could possibly have killed even more people.
