How does the saying go, Elroy? Victory has a hundred fathers, defeat is an orphan.

Well here in our view from the center thread I seem to be the only one who recognizes any successes in the war in Iraq, so that phrase seems to be reversed on this thread. And I think there is a difference between being defeated in attempting to rule over a people (perhaps what Napoleon was attempting in Egypt) and helping people to rule over themselves (what theoretically the US is attempting in Iraq). The US deciding the effort to encourage the Iraqis to rule themselves democratically is not worth the time and effort required, and therefore the US went home, just doesn't feel like a loss in a war. Maybe a failure to expand a sphere of influence, but a war loss, no.
