Maybe a failure to expand a sphere of influence, but a war loss, no.

But what is failure to stabilize the country, against an insurgency that aims to drive us out?

Hmm, I thought you would take a different tact. I actually find myself agreeing with part of your argument which is that the victory/defeat rhetoric is wrong. Bush, of course, led himself into that language trap. But his political opponents, I agree, should move away from defeat language to other language.

I'm not a fan of your positioning that we actually won the part of the war which we intended to win. I don't think that's the case. But I do think this dichotomous thinking is one of the several curses of the Bush II period.

Why did we lose the war before it even started. To know how to answer this one must read or learn what Osama Bin Laden's plans have been. He laid them out much like Hitler did in Mien Kampf.

What he wanted was for the US to come to one of these countries: Pakistan,Iraq or Syria.. He wanted our troops in his territory.. He said so in PERSONAL interviews which are available to see on American at a Crossroads on PBS..

In his manifesto he said that he would not have to win with troops but that he wanted to over extend us and spend so much money fighting that we go bankrupt.. His persistence in having us stay on what he considers to be HIS LAND ..or ARAB land is part of the plan..

Part of his reason for the 9/11 attack was to bring the cowboy as he referred to us into a war on his turf.

Do you think we have followed the script. I do to a T.
