JF, when I hear the same invalid arguments echoed over and over again, especially if they are easily contradicted by the echoers themselves, it makes me wonder whether they were generated by the "vast left-wing conspiracy."

Back to the argument itself:

That's not how supply and demand works. We can work on the demand side, and the prices themselves can also drive the push toward overall lower consumption.

But if the goal is "energy independence," we might want to address both the short-term as well as the long-term. And for the short-term, that means moving more of our oil supply to domestic sources.
