Yes, I haven't read it, but a book was written on this by a former World Bank or IMF perpetrator, "Confessions of An Economic Hit Man".

Exactly, and that indebtedness is desired by the Developed World's major corporations, particularly, not exclusively U.S., as leverage to gain favourable terms of business, enrich the collaborative local elite and allow the acquisition of cheap assets. I still don't know what Correa will turn out like in the end but I cannot fault him for wanting to rid the country of WB and IMF influence. What will be the repercussions from this? Not sure, no awards for bravery from Washington that is for certain.
