No, Karen, DMA is right. If you wish to only address a particular person, use PMs. That's why they're called "private". Posts are public and it has ALWAYS been the case that anyone an respond.

Surely you jest. You engage someone when you address that poster and/or his comments. We get to pick and choose. There's no requirement to address even comments made directly to you let alone points made between two other parties. If participation required engagement of all poster on all points, well, the mind boggles.

In that case, it would be my suggestion you limit your posting to PM's.
