I think I would grow my own taters. And maye babysit my kid's tot. Even teach her how to grow taters. Cuz you can give a man a phish and feed him for a day, or teach him how to raise fish, and feed him until the pond dries up.

"Oil shale has the energy density of a baked potato," So does Oil shale have ten times the energy density of biofuels from corn???

Of course digging rocks out of the ground in deserted desert locations will have no effect on food prices and not cause poorer folks and children to starve to death or suffer the other ill effects of mal-nutrition.
