Fred Thompson seems like an intelligent, nice guy...but as you and John have said, he has to really want it. Isn't he really the "anti-everybody else" candidate de jour?

If he was standing at the podium Thursday with Rudy and McCain and Romney, et al,.....they would take turns whacking him for walking away from public service and then thinking he was contributing more to the world by acting on Law and Order while they were dealing with 9/11 and international terrorism...

he's an actor , he best put on his best performance at pretending he is excited.

If people do not get a feeling he really cares he will not get the votes. Personally, i think he can win ticket but not the presidency. Too conservative, party has to open up to attract independents and conservative democrats (democrats wanting some structure in government but afraid of extreme right causes.
