>>The only thing I know about Wolfowitz is his appearance in the Mike Moore film Farneheit 911, where he doesn't look very flattering. So I don't have any of your pre-conceived notions about him.<<

Elroy -

So because Steve has some knowledge of Wolfowitz and his history, his notions are "pre-conceived"? And the fact that you know virtually nothing about him makes you a better judge of his character?

That's an interesting viewpoint.

What I know about this "scandal" is that he tried to recuse himself from setting his girlfriend's pay package, and was denied that request by the World Bank.

But you've been told a lot more, Elroy. If you read the detailed presentations of both sides, you will see the issue, even if restricted to his companion, is much larger than your take.

Moreover, this was only the trigger, as several of us have typed to you before and you have not refuted the arguments. The list of very bad administrative practices is well beyond longish. Almost all the articles on Wolfowitz mention these. I gather you have yet to read those.

Finally, even David Brooks, in his NYTimes column today, gets it. Though he frames it as a personality conflict, he does at least note the issue here is very bad management practices, coupled with badly handling his companion's employment issues.

Now his staying harms the World Bank. Badly. Perhaps that what he wants. Who knows.

Elroy;

If you want him fired because he is a bad manager at the WB, say so

Excuse me, I thought I made my position clear. In case I didn't - Fire him. This insane reward system that you seem to be embracing of rewarding failure and stupidity is crazy. Fire him because he is largely responsible for the mess in Iraq!!!!! Don't reward him - and his girlfriend. Fire him!

Rewarding failure and rewarding those in this administration that lied to the American people is the morality I hate. Don't you think we should be rewarding success instead? Goodness!
