PS:I have a small position in them and like their prospects. But they are still very early in the game.

Sounds great. Always nice when we can experience some of the practical benefits of medical advances rather than just talking about them!

Anyone recall what ever happened to Curis and its bone morphogenic proteins (BMP)? They were trying to get one approved for non-healing fractures some years back if I recall correctly.

Great news Tom, Congrats!

It can be discouraging at times to follow medical news, where it seems like so much effort is going into $400,000 / yr. treatments, and heroic medicine that extends the quantity of life without much contribution to quality.

But the big picture is encouraging. Remarkable progress is being made.

Doc

In just six years, death rates and heart failure in hospitalized heart attack patients have fallen sharply, most likely because of better treatment, the largest international study of its kind suggests.

The National Cancer Institute reports that death rates have been declining since the early 1990s. The most recent data, from 2002 through 2004, show death rates falling by 2.6 percent a year for men and 1.8 percent a year for women.

At the time of my back surgery, the surgeon, on follow-up gave me a prescription for an antibiotic should I need to see a dentist during the healing time. I believe the discussion was that implant sites tend to be targets for infection agents carried by the blood and that dentistry disturbs gum tissue which can be the source of such infections.

So, being a good boy, I took my prophylactic antibiotic an hour before going to the dentist for my semiannual checkup and cleaning, just like the label said. When I got there I made note of my surgery and that I took this antibiotic. I was informed that this is "old school" and that taking antibiotics before oral work isn't really necessary.

So, who's right? The MD had told me that after around 6 months it wouldn't be necessary any more since the rapid bone growth phase would be over. So, after July, it won't matter anyway, but I'm still curious.

Best regards, Tom
