In terms of off-topic, here is what I wrote in the thread header :
"...I would prefer we do not discuss US domestic politics here - there are enuff places on SI to do that... but some of it will happen, because of the elections in 2008, and as a group we can minimize it...."

My preference remains the same, but realistically I expect some of it here, and as long as it is civil, and not the main topic of discussion, I dont see a problem.
