You don't get it because you and people like you refuse to accept the differences in world views. You often make the mistake of grouping Muslims or fundamentalist Muslims into one patriotic allegence. Forums like brianthebikers cult thread do much more harm that good by trying to lump Muslims into some weirdo cult. It just elevates the level of ignorance of the average Westerner. The world views of Islamicists is not based on loyalties to a civil order or to religious spokespersons for the various groups. They are much more prone to oppose each other than foreign kaffurs like us, although we are on the list also. It is based on fundamentals that are to live and die for. The frontier regions of Pakistan are populated by fundamentalists who have no loyalty to the government of Pakistan.

Why has this become a tactic of many in the Muslim religion. Why has this spread from mideast to south asia to europe to anywhere there are muslims. Big Pharaoh blogger called in the "curse of the Jew" - as in, the Islamic world blessed this new innovation of suicide bombing for the killing of the Jews, now 95% of its victims are fellow Muslims. Muslims committing suicide to kill other Muslims - and innocent civilians at that. Traditional Islamic jurists would be as appalled as anybody else that this is now what goes by the name of "jihad." You know i am not a racist but I just dont get it. Nothing to do with race, mike. Stop being cowed by PC. It has to do with two very modern realizations: that with Al Jazeera and the internet, one spectacular bombing is worth a hundred actual military advances, and is a thousand times cheaper, and that the technique is very effective where you can count on your enemy's valuing the lives of YOUR women and children more than YOU yourself do. Add in some high profile talking head imams with no concern for human life to bless the whole enterprise, and voila! New, improved islamo-fascist jihad.

Because, as a means of keeping their name (and their cause) in the public news, it's highly effective. Just like a disruptive child, who's being ignored, negative attention is still attention. It signals that "hey we're still here so don't think you Kafir / infidels are safe"... And I think there's something to do with being promised 72 virgins in Paradise that motivates many of the younger folks. They simply have no hope of ever possessing the economic means to pay the dowry necessary to obtain a wife. This has certainly been an influence amongst young Saudi members. But suffice it to say, NO Muslim nation is safe from these militants. And I dare say this is going to be a growing trend for years to come, unless there is some international headway made in improving the economic lot of hundreds of millions of people. But to do that, you have to have economic and political reforms. Hawk
