My mother was terrified to die and even moreso when she learned that Dad had signed to have them both cremated..

However, near the end of her life, stone deaf, incontinent and
wheel chair bound I think she welcomed it. Besides which she was so out of it mentally by then that she did not know what was happening to her.

However, I think parents can instill that fear in children as I still grapple with death.

That I do not know. It makes one think, certainly. I do think the older one gets (i.e., one's children are grown), the more one is prepared to the Maker, particularly if one is ill.

A friend died recently of breast cancer, and faced it as an experience and a journey, just part of life's experience. That seems to be healthy.

Did you ever read Thanatopsis, by William Cullen Bryant? It was one of my mother's favorite poems.

If people would make an all-out effort to contemplate their own death, to deal with their anxieties surrounding the concept of death, and to help others familiarize themselves with these thoughts, perhaps there could be less destructiveness around us. But if a whole nation, a whole society suffers from such a fear and denial of death, it has to use defenses, such as "shoot1st" and the "dominoe theory" which can only be destructive. Wars, riots, and increasing numbers of murders and other crimes may be indicators of our decreasing ability to face death with acceptance and dignity.

>>Why are we all scared to die?<<

The fear of death is a universal fear. What has changed is our way of coping and dealing with death and dying. Most people just love to live and enjoy life.
