Taliban were indigenous--these guys are not.

Taliban were indigenous, but the "Arab Afghans" were not. AQ just has to find somebody with a sympathetic outlook who is weak enough to be in a precarious position, and say: you give us our base, we will make you the baddest boy on the block. You can destroy your rival tribe instead of being destroyed by him.

You can bet your bottom dollar the deal will be done. Now, there will certainly be lots of fighting, a many sided war, and I can't predict who will be standing at the end of the day. But AQ will be a major player if the US bugs out, that is clear enough.
