Predictability and consistency is a good thing when people are counting on you Nadine. Not that interesting in thought provoking discussions. Its like trying to brain storm ideas and having somebody on the sidelines shouting after each contribution, "that's a dumb one, lets don't count it". Not sure if you've ever tried brainstorming, so you may not get that. But the point is, continually discounting information does not encourage thoughtful discussion. Maybe that is ok with you maybe its not, just thought I'd point it out in case you didn't know.

The statistics presented are valid. We could go about gathering them using various other methods that might bring us more understanding and different interpretations. Your observation about servants is a valid point but we don't know that interviewing nannies, servants, merry maid services in the USA, Great Britain, etc wouldn't produce some interesting tales as well. I suspect they would.

Anyway, as I said, "I view SOME of the criticism as uneven." Certainly there are some unique situations in other cultures that we might find abhorant and rare in the USA, and visa versa. So what?
