Their will always be fundamentalists going to extremes just like there are in any dogmatic group. There are also the usual number of mentally ill people you would find in any other population ... approximately 3% of which many also fall into the extremist camp. Out of a billion or so that promises plenty of fodder for the extremist critics like ... well I wont mention names. The hype about this stuff comes from the critics who have little or no understanding of the various cultures and sub-cultures of Islam but an agenda to promote their own affiliations by attempting to degrade others. Moderate Muslims can do nothing about that until reasonable and decent non-Muslims agree to get off the side lines and stand with them. It does zero good for a moderate Muslim to go to a thread like Brians 'The Truth About Islam' for example and attempt to provide reasoned info. The reaction to the information I provided here seems to be only a criticism of a Sharia doctrine, which as you have pointed out is not a rigid dogma that transcends circumstance. That was hardly an essential issue related to the presentation I gave, it was more of a jab intented to discount the whole issue. This is the most fair and balanced of threads at the moment but I doubt even here that their is any point in going off on a what's wrong with Islam tangent.
