You post was very clear....and I don't want to over-defend Paul, but his contribution to the debate about where we go in the future in the Middle East is to remind everyone that the path we are currently on was not-preordained. We have had choices under both Democratic and Republican administrations for decades....

Reagan saw something he did not like in Lebanon and pulled back. That was a choice.

9/11 demanded our action in Afghanistan. Demanded it....but it did not demand our action in Iraq. That was a choice.

Once that initial choice was made, more choices followed...and more will follow in the months ahead, regarding Iraq, and maybe Iran...

Ron Paul points out that we are not impotent in making choices about foreign policy and never have been. Was 9/11 mandated by our policy in the Middle East? No. Was it more likely in some small way by our policies? Maybe.

It's certainly worth discussing...

But I am disgusted by the commentators putting words in Paul's mouth, as demonstrated by the John Gibson and Michelle Malkin quotes I posted.
